Rocket Garden
The rocket garden features eight milestone launch vehicles from KSC's history. The Mercury-Redstone, Mercury-Atlas, and Gemini-Titan II rockets that launched astronauts during the Mercury and Gemini programs; and the Juno I, Thor-Delta and Atlas-Agena rockets that launched satellites from Cape Canaveral. The Atlas D on display is 37D, and contains a replica of the Merucry capsule atop it. The Titan II on display is a refurbished Air Force ICBM with a replica Gemini spacecraft, painted to resemble the Gemini 3 booster. The Juno I on display is painted with serial number "UE" like the one that launched the first US satellite, Explorer I. { More } |
Early Space Exploration
The Early Spaceflight building houses several displays of artifacts from America's early space-race, among them is the Gemini 9A spacecraft flown by Thomas P. Stafford (Commander) and Eugene A. Cernan (Pilot); Dave Scott's Gemini space suit (G4C-27), which he used on Gemini 8; Neil Armstrong's Apollo era space suit; the Mercury 12B capsule, which went unflown but served as backup for Wally Schirra's MA-8 (Sigma 7) mission; a re-creation of the Mercury Control Center using consoles and furniture relocated from the original blockhouse at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station; and Gordo Coopers Mercury flightsuit amongst many, many other artifacts from the time period. |
