Vocalists & Songs

KURIOS is the brainchild of composer Raphaël Beau, a classically-trained French composer who played in the independent band Spook & The Guay and has since composed for the orchestra in the French musical score L’Âge d’or. He also created cabaret-style movie soundtrack for the film Micmacs.
KURIOS represents a thrilling new sound for Cirque du Soleil. In line with the show’s themes of time travel and the suspension of time, the music of KURIOS compels you to imagine musicians from jazz’s peak eraperforming alongside contemporary DJs. The blending of vintage and modernstyles in the music (a theme that extends to all facets of the show) serves to present jazz and swing in a way that has universal appeal. The intriguing songs complement the show’s mission, which is to blur the lines of fantasy and reality, immersing the viewer in a mysterious and fascinating realm that disorients the senses and challenges perceptions.

Inspired by electro-swing, jazz, and the sounds of the Big Band Era, KURIOS represents an entirely fresh take on these beloved musical genres. "Inverted World" starts off with a beautiful classical piano and string duobefore diving into a 1920s influenced klezmer/banjo bluegrass mashup with hints of jazz legend Django Reinhardt. The soundtrack continues this classical/contemporary mix with the counterbalance of a piano solo with theremin on the song “Departure.”Swing beats are placed front and center on the fast-paced "Say That Thing","Go the We Bap", and "You Must Be Joking." All of these songs move the story of KURIOS forward, creating an intricate and rich sound that will resonate with music lovers everywhere.
