Like a jointed puppet, a performer on canes teeters in a stirring dance.
The Limping Angel and his tribe perform a dance of death. This is their
final chance to put the fear of god into Icarus, who seems to be on his last
legs, almost unable to go on. They try to capture him but the Guide stands
guard, his wings beating menacingly. These are the demons who haunt Icarus:
the threat of what he might become… and the impetus to become something much
more.
The show takes a darker turn with the Solo on Crutches performance.
Flanked by ominous creatures from
the forest, he shows Icarus, and himself, that he can stand on two
legs despite all that has kept him down. His ballet is pure emotion
and his actions are helped along by the guardians of Varekai.
This act is simple and yet difficult at the same time; the artist
twirls about the stage, feet far from the ground.
